NEW BOOK: Healthy Teeth & Nice Smiles

Healthy Teeth & Nice Smiles

DHAA Executive members have approved advance publicity of a new book on the New Preventive Dental Care by Dr Theo Gotjamanos.

Dr Gotjamanos has advised that his book outlines how dental hygienists in the private sector can assume an important role in proposed ‘Family General Dental Practices’. Under Dr Gotjamanos’ proposal, hygienists would share primary responsibility with their employing dentists for ensuring a high level of oral health in pregnant women, parents of newborns, infants, toddlers, older children, teenagers and adults in accord with the New Preventive Dental Care.

DHAA provides no specific endorsement of Dr Gotjamanos’ book. However, it supports new initiatives for greater participation of dental hygienists in improving and maintaining the oral health of persons of all ages and the various cultural/ethnic groups within the community.

The Dental Hygienists’ Association of Australia Inc. (Queensland Branch) (DHAAQ) would like to extend an invitation to colleagues in oral health to participate in the 2009 Professional Development Day on Saturday 18 July 2009 at O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyard in the Gold Coast Hinterland.

An exciting day is planned with international speaker Trisha O’Hehir, RDH, BS. Trisha is also the Editorial Director of Hygienetown, President of Perio Reports Press, an instrument designer and author of “The Toothpaste Secret”. This delightful book is included with your registration to attend and there will be plenty of opportunity to have the book personally signed by its author on the day!

Hygiene Horizons – A Breath of Fresh Air will commence at 8am with registration and trade. The full day presentation on hygiene related topics include:

  • Explaining Bleeding, Bugs and Bad Breath to Patients
  • Polish First: The Secret to Hygiene Department Success
  • Achieve Health in 5mm Bleeding Pockets with Scoops not Scalers

O’Reilly’s provides an idyllic location to recharge the batteries with its abundance of fresh air. It also provides a unique opportunity to listen to our speaker along side the oak barrels in the wine cellar. Lunch will be a gourmet picnic basket and rug to be enjoyed near the vineyard beside the creek (or on the wide verandahs of the historic Queenslander if it rains).

Handfuls of supportive dental industry will be trading in the ballroom Exhibition Marketplace. In addition to their valuable face to face contact, the day will be scattered with little surprises and treats.

The day will conclude a few minutes down the road at the Canungra Hotel for Christmas-in-July with a good old fashioned pub meal and a live band to dance the night away.

The Gold Coast and its Hinterland provides a wide range of accommodation options from chalets in the mountains to high rise on the beach. The possibilities are endless but be sure to book soon as our numbers are limited and the Gold Coast is a popular destination.

For more information be sure to visit our website www.dentalhygienist.com.au/pd2009 and download your registration form.

We look forward to seeing you there.
